Burkina Faso's ministry of Health, in collaboration with UNFPA, has included community-based distribution of contraceptives in its community-based services. The concept is implemented mainly through two approaches i.e. the Contracting Strategy and the Social Mapping.
- Contracting Strategy: the Health ministry signs contracts with selected NGOs and associations who will help to deliver the service in a bid to reach a wider population.

- Social Mapping: community members and health workers cooperate to map all compounds in a given village and identify people living in each compound, particularly women.
Community health workers then use the map to individually meet with men and women as part of the community-based services including the distribution of contraceptives.
