The Global Gender Summit took place from 25 to 27 November 2019, at the Kigali Convention Centre (KICC), Kigali, Rwanda. It was hosted by the African Development Bank and the Republic of Rwanda, organized along with other multilateral development bank partners, the biennial event brought together leaders from government, development institutions, the private sector, civil society and academia. The main objective of the summit was to share best practices and catalyze investment to accelerate progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment in Africa and around the world. UNFPA’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Mr. Mabingue Ngom, attended the Global Gender Summit. Convinced that Demographic Dividend can change a lot in Africa, his presence at the summit was motivated by the will to support gender in Africa in order to build on the outcomes of the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25 commitments to accelerate changes on the ground, and by the willingness to support member states to move their demographic agenda forward. Coinciding with the 16 days of activism to end Gender-Based Violence that started 28 years ago, the Regional Director also took this opportunity to make a plea for enhance commitments against the scourge.

POPULATION D'AFRIQUE 10 : SWEDD, the project to empower women and harness the demographic dividend in the Sahel, was launched in November 2015. It covers Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger. In Côte d'Ivoire, thanks to Christian and Muslim religious leaders, as well as several initiatives such as Safe Spaces, the Husbands' clubs and Future Husbands' Clubs, conclusive results have been obtained and a second phase of the project is already under study.
POPULATION D'AFRIQUE N°10 : Le SWEDD, le projet d'autonomisation des femmes et de capture du dividende démographique au Sahel, a été lancé en novembre 2015.
