In 2025, the complex displacement crisis of refugees and returnees from Sudan and ongoing internal insecurity has left 7 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including 1.3 million women of reproductive age (WRA). The conflict in Sudan, now in its second year, has driven nearly a million people, predominantly women and children, to seek refuge in Chad. Refugees face dire conditions, experience violence and with limited rights, increasing their vulnerability to Gender-Based Violence. Concurrently, the Lake Chad region has experienced continuous displacement since early 2025 due to conflict, poverty, and climate change, resulting in almost 300,000 displaced individuals and refugees in Lake Chad Province. Critically, reduced humanitarian funding for UNFPA Chad threatens the provision of essential SRH and protection services for these vulnerable populations affected by the crises.
