About the NTA Global Meeting:

The event aims to “bring together experts from research centers around the world who are at the forefront of research on demographic and economic issues (demographic dividend, aging, women's empowerment, gender, generational accounting, pensions, etc.).” The Center for Research in Applied Economics and Finance from the University of Thiès (CREFAT) is the convening organization of the conference on NTA in collaboration with its partners: the Center for the Economics and Demography of aging –(CEDA), the University of California -Berkeley, the East-West Center and the University of Hawaii.

The objective of the NTA project “is to improve the understanding of how the structure of population growth and changing age influences the economic, gender, generational equity, public finance and other important aspects of macroeconomics.” The project consists of research teams based at universities, research institutions and government agencies in 48 countries worldwide, with the task of building accounts for “measuring how people at each age level produce, consume, share resources and save for their future”. CREFAT is one of such research teams.

About the High-level Symposium:

UNFPA, in close collaboration with the CREFAT and with the support of the Government of the Republic of Senegal, is organizing this special event that will serve as the high-level interactive segment of the 11th NTA meeting.

The Symposium aims to provide a space for networking and constructive exchange; to agree on the outline elements of a framework for action, based on evidence and experience; to provide information for the African Union roadmap on leveraging the demographic dividend.

To meet these objectives, interactive panel exchanges will be structured around three sessions: “Demographic Dividend around the world: Lessons and Perspectives”; “Demographic Dividend in Africa: Policies and Interventions”; and “Sustainable Development in Africa: Voices of Eminent Elders/Persons.

UNFPA works to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
