Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, 14 August 2015. In an effort to support the Government of Equatorial Guinea scale up its healthcare services and further improve maternal, Noble Energy EG Ltd. and UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, have signed a Funding Agreement.
This Agreement of a total amount of six million, two hundred four thousand, and one hundred and eighty-three dollars (USD $6,204,183) over 4 years represents a substantive contribution to the UNFPA Programme of Cooperation and is fully aligned with the national road map for the acceleration of the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality in Equatorial Guinea 2008-2025.
Under this agreement, The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, UNFPA and Noble Energy will collaborate in ensuring that in all selected health project facilities fully-functioning maternal and newborn health and family planning services are established, health workers receive adequate training and that a national health information system is designed and implemented for data collection, management, analysis, and reporting.
Main beneficiaries of the Agreement therefore include pregnant and postpartum women, especially young women, under-5 Children, especially newborns, health service providers, community health workers as well as Officials of the Ministry of Helath at every level of intervention.

The signing Officials in turn said the following: “On behalf of the mothers and children of Equatorial Guinea, Noble Energy is pleased to make this multi-million dollar, multi-year commitment. “The contribution of more than six million US dollars from Noble Energy will help consolidate, expand and make irreversible the progress achieved by Equatorial Guinea in reaching the Millennium Development Goal 5 on maternal mortality reduction” (Mabingue Ngom, UNFPA Regional Director for West and Central Africa).
