Ms Dawn Minott, head of UNPFA sub-regional office, Kaduna, stated this while on a working visit to Damaturu to access the impact of the support provided by the fund.

She expressed satisfaction with improvement in service delivery in health institutions following capacity buiding provided to doctors and nurses by the fund.

"I am pleased to say we have received positive feedback from all the stakeholders on the relevance of the support provided by UNPFA, the reproductive health kits and those kits gone directly to the beneficiaries at the IDP camp and state specialists’ hospital and, we have seen for ourselves that those kits have been relevant for this particular context."

Ms Dawn said the visit had provided the team with an opportunity to bridge existing gaps in promotion of reproductive health, clinical management of rape and psycho social support.

The Secretary to Yobe state government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, commended UNPFA for providing the state with medical services to improve the lives of people displaced by insurgency in the state.

"Yobe state government appreciates your intervention by providing us with equipment, drugs and training services for our health personnel to improve the quality of healthcare delivery especially for people displaced by the security challenges." The SSG urged UNPFA to liaise with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for improved coordination and working synergy for the benefit of the displaced persons.

Earlier, the Assistant Director Public Health, Yobe ministry for health, Mr Ali Abdullahi, said the provision of equipment, drugs and training of health workers by UNPFA had immensely contributed to sustenance of the IDP camp clinic.

He identified inadequate staff and management of serious medical conditions as major challenges confronting the camp clinic and called for more support for improved services to the displaced persons.

Meanwhile, SEMA secretary Musa Idi Jidawa, said displaced persons in the state were categorized into three with some in government established camps, others in self set groups and those residing with relations in host communities.
