After 78 days following confirmation of the first case of COVID-19 in Nigeria on 27 February 2020, the West and Central Africa region has witnessed a dramatic increase in the total confirmed cases as well as deaths.
As of 15 May 2020, all 23 countries in West and Central Africa (WCA) had recorded 28,256 confirmed cases, representing 122% from the figures two weeks earlier.
About 8,702 (30.8%) cases have recovered. Unfortunately, there are about 693 deaths or 2.5% of total cases. The main challenge remains the growing number of active cases, 18,781 (66.5%) of total cases in need medical services.
