As part of the United Nations inter-agency partnership, the UNFPA Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Dr. Sennen Hounton, was welcomed by Dr. Thierno Baldé, the Coordinator of the WHO Regional Emergency Hub in Dakar.
This meeting provided an opportunity for the two organizations to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership, particularly to enhance the humanitarian response for the most vulnerable populations, with a specific focus on women and girls.
During the visit, Dr. Baldé and Dr. Hounton also toured the WHO storage facility, whose large logistical capacity allows for an efficient and rapid response to health emergencies in the region. The discussions between the two delegations enabled the identification of several areas of collaboration and partnership within the inter-agency framework, aimed at strengthening health systems and coordinating crisis response efforts. Among these areas, initiatives were proposed to ensure equitable access to health services, promote community resilience, and protect the rights of women and girls in emergency situations.
This United Nations inter-agency partnership, with WHO and UNFPA as key actors, reflects a commitment to building a future where everyone can benefit from quality health care in a safe and equitable environment. Through a coordinated and collaborative approach, the partnership aims to address the needs of populations in the region effectively.
